Faith in practice for serving with purpose: discover your gifts, build christian community, and serve with joy

Season 1, Episode 800:23:12Published March 25, 2025

Faith in practice looks like using what God already put in you to serve other people with humility, joy, and real impact. In this episode, we kick off the Serving with Purpose series with my friend Angela, a longtime homeschool co op leader who serves so naturally it's become part of who her whole family is.

We talk about what it actually looks like to identify your gifts (and stop comparing yourself to someone else's lane). Angela shares how she discovered her spiritual gifts in administration and hospitality through a Bible study on spiritual gifts, and how that clarity helped her say yes to leadership without burning out.

You'll also hear the honest side of serving:
- The logistical doubts that hit every time you say yes (time, energy, sickness, the unknown)
- Why trust in God is what gets you past the "what if" spiral
- How God sanctifies us through service, and why humility is a hidden superpower
- What it looks like to build christian community with your kids, so serving becomes a habit, not a fight
- Practical ways to find your "fit" so you are serving from your gifts, not forcing what doesn't match you

Angela also drops a simple way to start: look for the holes. What's missing where you already live, work, worship, or gather? Sometimes the need you notice is the invitation. And if you feel unqualified, start with prayer and start small. One role. One hour. One yes.

If you're not sure what your gifts are, or you've been waiting until you feel ready, this episode is your nudge. You can grow as you go. And God will meet you in the doing.

At the end, Angela gives a gut-check that sticks: go where your heart is tender. Service is meant to be intentional, not performative. Jesus first, others second, yourself third. And the joy shows up when we step outside of ourselves and show up for someone else.
