Trusting God with homeschooling can feel impossible when you are exhausted, second-guessing yourself, and trying to force school to fit a kid who just does not fit a box. In this episode, Bethany shares how her family became "Covid homeschoolers," how that first year nearly crushed her, and how God used it to rebuild her faith in practice one hard day at a time.
Bethany is honest about the dark parts: the stubbornness clash, the anger, the nights of sobbing on the couch after the kids were in bed, and the pressure to "check every box" like school at home had to look exactly like public school. She also shares the turning point that changed everything, a homeschool conference session that reframed parenting from control to influence.
You will hear the concept that stopped her in her tracks: we start with a lot of control and little influence, but over time we lose control and can gain influence. And two keys that shape that influence are positive affirmation and time. For Bethany, that was the moment God made it clear she needed to get the time back with her child.
We also talk about the practicality of what helped her stay grounded after that shift, like building community through a co-op and a tutorial, taking lots of breaks, getting outside for wiggles, and learning to let go of unrealistic expectations. Bethany describes their hybrid homeschool rhythm and why it protects both her kids and her heart.
And if you have ever thought, I cannot homeschool because I am not a teacher, Bethany speaks straight to that lie. She reminds us that God gave you your child on purpose, and He will equip you for what He is asking of you.
This episode is for the mom who wants to surrender her plan, trust God with the messy middle, and find the joy on the other side.
