Today's conversation with my friend Lori is one I keep thinking about, because it hits a place so many of us carry quietly, unforgiveness, especially when the other person does not even realize they hurt us.
We talk about what it really means to release someone, not because they apologized, not because they changed, but because God asked us to let it go so He can set us free. This is not pretending it did not hurt. It is choosing obedience, healing, and wholeness, so we do not stay stuck carrying something that was never ours to carry.
Lori shares part of her story as a stroke survivor, how losing pieces of identity, navigating misunderstood seasons, and feeling overlooked created emotional barriers that slowly turned into unforgiveness. And then she names the turning point, forgiveness is not really about the other person, it is about our closeness with God, our freedom, and our willingness to be in tune with what He is asking of us.
We also get practical. What does forgiveness look like in real life when feelings keep pulling you back? Lori shares what helps her, community, prayer, time in the Word, reminders like post-it notes, and even writing things down as a way to bring what is swirling in your heart into the light and release it to God. I love how clearly she says it, forgiveness does not erase the hurt, it just loosens its grip so you can move forward free.
Scripture we referenced in this episode:
Ephesians 4:32
Colossians 3:13
If you listened and thought, I have a story too, something God has been teaching you, shifting in you, or healing in you, I would love to hear from you. This podcast exists for real faith and real stories, and yours might be exactly what someone else needs.
If you feel that little nudge, do not ignore it.
