You Are Wonderfully Made: Believing What God Says About You

Ladies, you are wonderfully made is not just a sweet phrase for a coffee mug or a pretty print on the wall. You are wonderfully made is truth from God’s Word for the woman who feels too much, not enough, overlooked, tired, compared, or unsure of who she is. In this post, I want to help you come back to what God says about your identity, learn how to quiet the lies, and practice living from the truth that you were created with purpose by a loving Father.

Can I tell you something? I have had seasons where I knew Psalm 139 in my head, but I did not always believe it in my heart. I could encourage another woman all day long and tell her she was loved, chosen, gifted, and made on purpose. But when I looked in the mirror, I saw the flaws first. The tired eyes. The mistakes. The things I wished were different.

Hand to heart, that is a hard place to live from. And my friend, if you have been there too, you are not alone.

In our recent conversation on the podcast, we talked about putting truth into practice, not just hearing it and moving on. That is really the heartbeat of Perspectives Into Practice. We hear God’s truth, then we ask, “Lord, how do I live this today?” So let’s walk this out together.

What God Says When He Says You Are Wonderfully Made

Psalm 139:13-14 (CSB) says, “For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.”

Here’s the thing. David is not praising himself here. He is praising the Creator. When we say you are wonderfully made, we are not saying, “Look how amazing I am apart from God.” We are saying, “Look how intentional God is.”

You see, God did not throw you together. He did not miss a detail. He did not make you as an afterthought. Your personality, your capacity to love, your gifts, your tenderness, your strength, even the way you notice things other people miss, all of it matters.

I remember standing in front of the mirror one morning, running late, trying to get everyone moving, and I caught myself thinking, “I am just a mess.” Not “I am having a hard morning.” Not “I need help.” Just, “I am a mess.”

And right there, with toothpaste still in the sink and the house already loud, I felt the Holy Spirit gently correct me. Not in a harsh way. In a loving way. Almost like, “Jessica, is that what I call you?”

That stopped me. Because no, God does not call me a mess. He may meet me in my mess, yes. He may help me grow through it. But He calls me daughter. Loved. Redeemed. Created with purpose. You are wonderfully made means your identity starts with His voice, not your worst thought about yourself.

Why We Struggle to Believe We Are Made on Purpose

How many of you have found it easier to believe the negative things than the true things? I get it. One critical comment can stick for years. One rejection can shape how we walk into rooms. One comparison scroll on social media can make us forget everything God has already spoken over us.

And let me tell you, comparison is sneaky. It does not always sound obvious. It sounds like, “She is better at motherhood.” “Her marriage looks easier.” “She is more confident.” “She knows her calling.” “She looks like she has it all together.”

But friend, you are wonderfully made even when someone else is gifted too. Her beauty does not cancel yours. Her calling does not shrink yours. Her progress does not mean you are behind.

If this has been a tender area for you, you may also be encouraged by this post on daily surrender for Christian women article, because so much of identity work begins with handing our thoughts back to God one day at a time.

The lies often sound personal, but they are not from your Father

One thing I have had to learn is that not every thought deserves my agreement. Just because a thought enters my mind does not mean it gets to lead my life.

Second Corinthians 10:5 talks about taking every thought captive to obey Christ. That is practical. It means we pause and ask, “Does this line up with what God says?”

So when the thought says, “You are not enough,” we bring it to Jesus. When the thought says, “You are too broken,” we bring it to Jesus. When the thought says, “You have nothing to offer,” we bring it to Jesus.

And then we replace it with truth. You are wonderfully made. You are His workmanship. You are being renewed. You are not disqualified from grace.

How to Practice Identity in Christ When You Are Wonderfully Made

I want you to know this truth is not meant to sit on a page. You are wonderfully made is something we practice believing in ordinary moments. While brushing hair. While driving to work. While making dinner. While sitting in the quiet after a hard conversation.

Romans 12:2 (CSB) says, “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” Renewing your mind takes repetition. It takes returning. It takes honest practice.

Speak God’s truth out loud

I know it can feel awkward at first, but say it out loud. “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” “God made me with purpose.” “I am loved by Him.” “My worth is not up for debate today.”

There is something powerful about hearing your own voice agree with God. You may not feel it right away. That is okay. Keep speaking truth anyway.

Write one verse where you will see it

Put Psalm 139:14 on your bathroom mirror, your phone lock screen, your planner, or a sticky note by the coffee pot. I need truth in front of my eyes because my mind can wander fast.

If anxiety or racing thoughts make this hard, this gentle practice of journaling prayer and Scripture for anxiety article may help you slow down and let God’s Word become steady ground again.

Ask God what He loves about how He made you

This might feel vulnerable, but try it. Sit with Him and ask, “Father, what do You want me to see about how You made me?” Then listen. Write down what comes to mind and compare it with Scripture.

God will never flatter you into pride, but He will lovingly remind you of truth. He may show you that your sensitivity is not weakness. Your leadership is not too much. Your quiet faithfulness is not invisible. Your story is not wasted.

Practice gratitude for your body and your story

For some of us, saying you are wonderfully made feels hardest when it comes to our bodies. Maybe your body has changed. Maybe illness, motherhood, aging, stress, or grief has made you feel disconnected from yourself.

Friend, your body is not an enemy. It is part of how God carries you through this life. You can care for it with gentleness instead of punishment. You can thank God for breath in your lungs, hands that serve, arms that hug, feet that keep taking the next step.

And your story? God can use that too. The parts you wish looked different. The chapters you would not have chosen. The healing still in process. He wastes nothing.

Why Community Helps You Remember You Are Wonderfully Made

My friend, we are not meant to remember truth alone. I really believe one of the gifts of Christian community is that we help each other see clearly when shame, insecurity, or comparison clouds our vision.

Have you ever had a friend speak life over you at the exact moment you were believing the worst about yourself? That is not small. That is ministry.

Sometimes we need someone to say, “Hey, that is not who you are.” We need women who remind us, “You are wonderfully made, and I see God working in you.” We need safe places where we can be honest without being fixed too quickly.

If you are in a season where you feel hidden or unsure of your next step, you might appreciate this encouragement on ministry as identity, not work article. Your value is not based on how much you produce. It is rooted in who God says you are.

Your identity blesses more than just you

Here is something I keep learning. When a woman begins to believe she is made on purpose, it changes how she shows up. She parents differently. She serves differently. She loves differently. She stops competing and starts encouraging. She becomes safer for other women because she is not constantly measuring herself against them.

That matters in our homes. It matters in our churches. It matters in our friendships. It matters in the next generation watching us decide whose voice we will believe.

When you live like you are wonderfully made, you give other women permission to believe it too.

Key Takeaways for This Week

  • You are wonderfully made because God is intentional, not because you have performed perfectly.
  • Your worth begins with God’s Word, not your feelings, failures, appearance, relationship status, productivity, or past.
  • Negative thoughts need to be tested against Scripture before they are allowed to shape your identity.
  • Psalm 139 reminds us that God made us with care, purpose, and full knowledge.
  • Community helps us remember truth when we are tempted to believe lies about ourselves.

Putting This Perspective Into Practice

So what do we do with this today? Let’s make it simple.

  1. Read Psalm 139:13-14 out loud each morning this week.
  2. Write down one lie you have been agreeing with about yourself.
  3. Find one Scripture that speaks truth over that lie.
  4. Tell one trusted friend what you are practicing so she can encourage you.
  5. Ask God to help you see yourself through His eyes, especially in the moments you feel most critical.

And if your faith rhythms feel hard to keep right now, this post on faith routines for life seasons article may help you take one gentle step toward wholeness without adding pressure.

Can I pray for you?

Father, thank You for the woman reading this right now. Thank You that she is wonderfully made, seen, known, and loved by You. Help her release every lie that has tried to name her. Renew her mind with Your Word. Surround her with community that speaks life. Teach her to walk in the identity You already gave her. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Friend, you are wonderfully made. On the days you feel strong and on the days you feel fragile. In the places that feel healed and in the places still becoming whole. God did not make a mistake with you.

If this spoke to your heart, I want to invite you to listen to the full episode of Perspectives Into Practice. Come sit with us, hear the honest conversation, and keep learning how to take God’s truth from inspiration into real life practice. We are walking this out together, one small faithful step at a time.
