Healing and faith can feel far away when grief hits without warning. In this episode, my friend Danielle shares what happened after losing her mom suddenly, and how that shock became the beginning of a new kind of obedience to God.
Danielle's mom got sick on vacation, went from urgent care to the ER, and within days Danielle was flying to Colorado, saying goodbye, and planning a funeral. It was fast. Disorienting. And it left her family in a fog of sadness that didn't lift easily.
Out of that loss, Danielle made a decision that surprised even her. She started caring for her health in a new way, not from vanity, but from a very real awareness of how fragile life can feel. That's when she stumbled into the world of faith and fitness online and thought, why did I never connect these two?
But God had more for her than a fitness devotional.
On a four hour plane ride, with the in-flight entertainment down and nowhere to run from her feelings, Danielle felt the Holy Spirit press in. Instead of escaping with a funny movie, she wrote. Right there on the plane. She drafted a 30 day devotional about grief in one sitting, a "backpack of grace" you carry for life. Some days it's heavy. Some days it's light. But you don't have to stay stuck under it.
We also talk about the kinds of grief people don't always name out loud: losing a job, a relationship, a pet, moving, becoming an empty nester, even grieving how your body changes in different seasons. And Danielle shares why community matters so much when you're walking through loss, plus what she's building now with her growing sisterhood space.
If you've ever wondered if your pain disqualifies you from being used by God, Danielle's story is a gentle, strong reminder: grief can be a doorway. God can take what hurt you and turn it into a ministry that helps others breathe again.
Because you don't "get over" grief. But you can get through it. And you can still laugh, still live, and still let God write something beautiful on the other side.
