Speaking God’s Promises Daily to Experience Freedom in Your Present and Future

Can I ask you something? Have you ever sat in your living room, maybe with a cup of coffee, and looked around just feeling stuck? Like maybe your story is already written and there’s no way to change the ending? For a long time, I believed my past was a big, heavy label I had to carry around. But let me tell you what I’ve learned. When I started speaking God’s promises daily over my life, everything shifted. Right in the middle of my mess, freedom started to grow where shame wanted to stay.

I want to talk with you today about what it means to let go of old labels and walk into the hope God wants for us right now. This is about walking in freedom and speaking God’s promises daily over every day, every moment, and every fear that tries to creep back in. I keep coming back to this, because it’s not some magic phrase or quick fix. But it is practical. It is something we can actually do when today starts to feel heavy or yesterday keeps trying to drag us down.

Why Does My Past Try to Steal My Present Joy?

How many of you know what it’s like for old memories and mistakes to pop up at the worst time? Maybe it’s something you said, a place you’ve been, or even just a look from someone who remembers “old you.” Our recent podcast episode brought this right to the surface. Bree shared what it’s like to walk through hard places - real, messy places like addiction and homelessness. But here’s what stood out. She doesn’t live in those labels anymore, and neither do you.

There was this one moment she described – sitting in her home, looking around at answered prayers, and realizing, "I am living in the promise I once begged God for." That settled deep in my heart, too. I think the enemy would have us believe our past is a prison, but God’s promises say something new every single morning. That’s why speaking God’s promises daily is not just about changing our language. It is about changing our focus – from what we have done to what God has done and is doing now.

How Do We Break Free From Old Stories?

Speaking God’s promises daily is a choice. We can rehearse our regrets, or we can rehearse what God actually says. One thing I’ve learned (and Bree reminded me in our conversation) is that shame loses power every time we speak God’s words out loud. “I am a new creation.” “His plans are for my good.” “He calls me loved and chosen.” When we say those things, we invite truth into the room.

It’s not about ignoring what happened. It’s about not letting it define the rest of our life. Here’s the thing: Each victory, each answered prayer – those are living proof that God’s promise is bigger than our past.

What Does Speaking God’s Promises Daily Actually Look Like?

Now, let’s get practical. (Because you know I’m all about turning wisdom into something we can actually use.) For me, speaking God’s promises daily starts first thing in the morning. Some days it looks like writing Scripture on a sticky note and putting it on my bathroom mirror. Some days it’s whispering a verse while I drive to work. Other days, it’s saying it out loud when I feel fear creeping in. I don’t always feel strong. There are still hard days. But I’ve learned that when I speak God’s promises daily, my heart starts to believe them before my mind catches up.

Here are some ways you can begin this practice today:

  • Pick one promise from God’s Word each week. Write it down, memorize it, and say it every day.
  • Share a promise with a friend or family member. Remind each other when life gets busy or stressful.
  • When anxious thoughts come, answer them with a promise: “God, you have not given me a spirit of fear.”
  • Start thanking God in prayer for what He’s already done – big things and small everyday moments.

Psalm 28:7 says, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.” (CSB) I come back to this verse often. God is not waiting for us to be perfect before He helps us. His promises stand even when we feel shaky. Speaking God’s promises daily puts a shield around our hearts, right in the middle of real life.

How Does This Change My Everyday Life?

If you only take one thing from today, let it be this: Freedom is not a feeling, it is a fact when we line our lives up with God’s promises. Walking in freedom is not pretending struggles aren’t real. It’s trusting that every day can look a little brighter because God’s Word always speaks louder than regret or fear. Our community needs to see what it looks like when ordinary people grab hold of hope. Imagine what could happen if each of us made a habit of speaking God’s promises daily. Our homes change. Our friendships get stronger. Even our city starts to look different, because faith gets louder than our failures.

What If I Don’t Feel Worthy of God’s Promises?

This one hits home. Every time an old insecurity pops up, I remind myself – God’s promises are gifts, not rewards. That means you do not earn them and you cannot lose them because of what happened yesterday. And I get it. Maybe you’re thinking, "Jessica, you don’t know what I’ve done." You’re right. But I do know what Jesus did. That is what counts. So today, if you need someone to say it first, I’ll go - you are worthy of speaking God’s promises daily over your life.

How Can We Help Each Other Walk in Freedom?

I am convinced we’re not meant to do this alone. Bree said something about surrounding yourself with people who see your future, not your history. That’s what church is for. That’s what faith communities are for. I want you to think about this – Who in your life helps you remember who God says you are? And who can you encourage today by speaking God’s promises daily over them?

  • Start a group text with encouragement each morning.
  • Invite a friend to pray promises together once a week.
  • If you lead in your church or community, model it for others (even when you don’t feel strong).

Here’s what I love – every time we speak God’s promises daily in community, the enemy loses ground. Our faith grows. Our kids hear it. Our neighbors see something different in us, and maybe they start to wonder what is possible for them, too.

Making Speaking God’s Promises Daily a Natural Part of Life

Maybe you’ve tried before and felt awkward or artificial. I get it. It won’t always feel easy, but it is worth it. Start with small steps. Keep it simple. Say it out loud. Write it down. Thank God for what’s already changing in your story. Each time you practice speaking God’s promises daily, you’ll find more freedom waiting in your present and your future.

If this encouraged you, take time to listen to our recent podcast episode. Share it with someone who needs a little hope for today. Remember, God’s story for you is not finished, and there is so much good ahead.
